What is friable tumor?

Friable tumor refers to a type of tumor that easily crumbles, breaks down or bleeds upon touch or manipulation. Friable tumors are typically found in soft tissues, such as the cervix, lungs, and intestines, and are often associated with cancers such as cervical cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer.

The term "friable" refers to the tumor's texture, which is easily broken down or pulverized due to its lack of structural integrity. Because of this, friable tumors can be difficult to remove completely during surgery and may require additional treatment.

Symptoms of friable tumors can include bleeding, pain, and discomfort. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, imaging tests, and biopsy to determine the type and severity of the tumor. Treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, depending on the size and stage of the tumor.
